 Good evening reader,

In all our excitement over the US Midterms, we completely ignored the much deliberated domestic milestone(?) i.e. Demonetisation.

Yes, yesterday was the 2nd year anniversary of that wild but significant "experiment". We won't go to the extent of tagging it as a policy action, owing to its lack of thoughtfulness and structure.

What happened through the day followed an oft-repeated script.

The FM wrote a post on Facebook explaining the "Impact of Demonetisation." Ex-PM and Member of Opposition Manmohan Singh and others gave expectedly harsh assessments. #Demonetisation trended on Twitter. That's it.

The trouble is that a sane discussion on this issue can never happen in the vacuum of data and analysis (well, on that ground it definitely failed). There is a bulky political dimension and not merely an economic one. And in the world of the former, how the story is spun takes precedence over everything else.

That being said, we recommend you to follow this narrative to understand the makings of Political Spin, rather than in hope of a conclusive judgement. That ship sailed long time back.
