WeWork, facing imminent collapse, could be saved by top investor SoftBank.

Saving You Softly: Three weeks after Adam Neumann stepped down as CEO and on the heels of its botched IPO and steep valuation drop, WeWork’s parent company is reportedly facing imminent collapse. In dire need of cash, the We Company is apparently talking to “approximately 60” financial sources for capital infusion. These include JPMorgan Chase and SoftBank, the latter of which owns a third of the company and whose bid would involve billions in equity and debt. TechCrunch

WORLD BANK

World Bank cuts India’s growth forecast to 6%. Rate expected to recover to 6.9% in 2020-21.

The Cruelty of Numbers: In its latest edition of the South Asia Economic Focus, the World Bank had some sobering numbers on the Indian economy. The ongoing slowdown plaguing multiple sectors of the economy is dragging growth down. The World Bank has thus revised its growth projection to 6%. In 2018-19 the growth rate was 6.9% while in 2017-18 it stood at 7.2%. India Today

Reflecting a worsening trade balance, the current account deficit in 2018-19 has widened to 2.1% of GDP from 1.8% the previous year. Furthermore, while poverty has continued to decline, the rate of alleviation has slowed.

The report also noted, however, that growth is expected to gradually recover to 6.9% in 2020-21 and 7.2% in 2021-22 "as the cycle bottoms-out, rural demand benefits from effects of income support schemes, investment responds to tax incentives and credit growth resumes.” World Bank
